For monitoring of forests, the prosecutor for environmental protection of Pavlodar Region asked the JSC “NC “Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary” for space images that reflect in details trends of forest cutting. Since 23 to 27 of August 2018, the prosecutor made analysis of the satellite images to reveal illegal logging in forests and wind-throws and inspected Zhelezinsky, Kachirsky and Pavlodar areas of the Pavlodar Region.
Engineers of the Earth-remote sensing data processing (ERS) of the Center for Geoinformation Data and Services of the JSC “NC “Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary” made interpretation of satellite images of the area in order to analyze logging of forests and wind-throws.
Inspection confirmed the results of analysis of ERS data provided by the Kazakhstani satellites «KazEOSat-1» and «KazEOSat-2» and illegal logging in Pavlodar Region was revealed. As the company informed, further work will be done by the prosecutor for environmental protection within its competence.
As noted by the Environmental Prosecutor of the Pavlodar Region Dauren Kenbayev, the planned logging areas were removed from the inspection list, inspection was carried out only for those areas, which appeared cut in space images without permission for logging. Besides illegal logging areas, not-registered wind-throws were revealed.
According to Mrs. Kabdulova Gulzhian, a Space Monitoring Project Manager of forest resources and Head of the ERS data processing Division of the Center for Geoinformation Data and Services of the JSC “NC “Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary”, 6 of 44 ERS tasks of the company are focused on monitoring of forests. All information on logging of forests in Kazakhstan in 2017-2018 is uploaded as vector layers into the industrial geoportal of the Committee of Forestry and Wildlife of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The team of “space foresters”, who deal with space monitoring of all changes in forests proceeding from ERS data, consists of young and promising engineers. Experts of this area were trained in Kazakhstan, India and Russia. As was noted by the JSC “NC “Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary”, it is its first year that the company cooperates with the Forestry and Wildlife Committee and it is expected that the range of their joint tasks will be expanded for achieving effective results in monitoring of forests in Kazakhstan.
